8d. PRECEDE-PROCEED in Action: Some Examples
As was noted previously, PRECEDE-PROCEED is one of the most widely applied models for population health intervention planning. So, if the previous section left you a bit confused about how the model is applied in practice, there are lots of examples in the literature you can review.
The Child Pedestrian Injury Prevention Project
This Application of the PRECEDE-PROCEED Model illustrates how PRECEDE-PROCEED guided the development of an intervention to prevent child pedestrian injuries.
PRECEDE-PROCEED Health Promotion Program Examples: Condom Use and Diabetes Management
I also encourage you to watch the following videos, which were created by public health students in the United States. The videos illustrate how PRECEDE-PROCEED was applied to develop programs addressing condom use and diabetes management.
Stone, Jessica. (2017, November 29). PRECEDE-PROCEED and the Condom Promotion Program. [Video]. YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dbYu_AskOa0
Glover, Sarah. (2017, August 24). PRECEDE PROCEED Model Critical Assignment. [Video]. YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WmkZaYzH0Q
As you watch the videos, you’ll see how many of the theories and concepts discussed in previous models influenced the collection of data and the development of interventions using the PRECEDE-PROCEED model. PRECEDE-PROCEED provides a helpful framework for the application of theories to guide sound planning decisions. There are numerous other examples that can be accessed online. The PRECEDE-PROCEED model has existed in one form or another for over forty years, and has been used to plan thousands of health promotion initiatives, especially in the United States.
